Navoi delegation meets with Oxford EARTH

Oxford EARTH was delighted to host a delegation from Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies (NSUMT) and Navoi Mining and Metallurgical Company (NMMC) to discuss shared research interests across mining, critical minerals and sustainable resource development. 

The meeting considered how expertise across Earth Sciences, Chemistry and Biology at Oxford could connect with real-world challenges being explored by NSUMT and its industrial partners in Uzbekistan. Bringing together researchers across these disciplines is a key strength of Oxford EARTH, enabling resource challenges to be considered from different perspectives. 

Discussions focused on: 

• Recovery of rare earth elements from industrial process solutions 

• Management of hydrogen sulphide in closed-loop systems 

• Improving resource recovery from clay-rich and low-permeability ores 

The visit gave the delegation a chance to learn more about Oxford’s research facilities and explore how our expertise can support areas of mutual research interest. 

We look forward to further discussions and opportunities to develop future partnerships.
