David Pyle is a volcanologist and Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Oxford. He has worked on young and active volcanoes around the world from the Ethiopian Rift Valley, to the volcanoes of Greece, the Eastern Caribbean and Chile. His current research interests include using historical materials to understand volcanic hazard and risk; using petrology and geochemistry to track pre-eruption processes; and using creative approaches to engage with communities living near volcanoes.
David is involved in the Oxford Martin School ‘Rethinking Natural Resources’ project, which is focussed on the geothermal resource potential of the volcanic islands of the eastern Caribbean.
